Throughout history there is a very direct relationship between materials and the development of society. The great technological leaps, which allow a relevant improvement in the quality of life, are supported by the application and development of new materials.

Throughout history we have evolved from the stone age, through the age of metals and a significant advance occurred with the development of steel, which allowed the industrial revolution and a significant change in society. These changes have driven the exponential growth of society, demanding more efficient production and the need for a connection between this production and the point of consumption.

In this scenario, the development of plastic was fundamental, a material extremely suitable for transporting and protecting products and people. Throughout this development we created several polymers, produced them safely and valued their properties and characteristics, which resulted in an exponential increase in applications and volumes. Let’s understand this evolving context and what our next challenges are. How do we use technology to our advantage and transform waste into a source of raw material or energy?
