Leonardo Simon
Professor of engineering at the University of Waterloo

Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department since 2002. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Materials Sciences and Engineering, Polymers, and Nanocomposites. He obtained both his BEng (1995), MEng (1998) in Chemical Engineering and his PhD (2001) in Materials Science, all from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul – Porto Alegre, Brazil. His research areas include the synthesis, characterization and properties of polymer materials, nanocomposites and bioproducts. His research group uses nanotechnology, polymer science and engineering to develop new and enhanced plastics and composites for applications in automotive, packaging and consumer goods. In 2018 he created Polynovus Consulting Inc to meet the demand from industrial research collaborators and to deliver consulting to companies in the areas of materials and manufacturing, new technology and innovation.
